How to Care for your Clothing

Merino Wool/Cashmere/Silk

This is a delicate fibre and best hand-washed.  The easiest way to hand-wash is to use the bathwater after your baby has finished.  It is the right temperature and the soap is gentle.  Soak until all fibre is wet through, gentle spot wash of stubborn marks with your hand soap.  No vigorous scrubbing or rubbing, do not stretch or pull.  Just squeeze and release in the water gently until it has had a good wash through. Once you have rinsed it out with fresh warm water, gently squeeze all excess and lay flat on a clean towel.  Roll up with the towel in a tight roll, on your bathroom floor gently stand on the roll taking small steps all over it squeezing the last bits of water out. Unroll and leave to dry on the towel on a flat surface away from direct sunlight. This process does not take very long to do and gives the best results for handknitted garments

Cotton/Linen/Acrylics

These are much more robust fibres and can tolerate a gentle machine wash.  For best results use a laundry bag or pillowcase.  Again dry flat away from sunlight.  NB: Pegging out on a clothes line will stretch and your garment will lose its shape.  Sunlight causes your garment to change colour or fade.  Tumble drying can cause your garment to change in shape.
